Search for State Government Records

The Pennsylvania State Archives holds a number of public records, as well as papers that pertain to the history of the state. Some of the records citizens are authorized to search for include land records, military documents, genealogy records, research papers and more.

If you would like to make an in-person visit, the Pennsylvania State Archives is located at 305 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120. Their hours of operation are Wednesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The office is not opened on Sundays, Mondays or Tuesdays. Search for Business and Labor Records

To obtain information about a particular business, visit the Pennsylvania Department of State website and use the provided Search bar to aid you with the results you are looking for. When searching for a business entity, you can get filing history information that includes the following:

  • Entity number
  • Entity creation date
  • Principal place of business
  • Owner information
  • Mailing address

Note: Through the PA Department of State, you can also order certified documents or make online requests.

Search for Crime and Court Records

In order to begin your search for court case information, visit the Pennsylvania Judiciary Web Portal website. You can conduct your search by sifting through criminal cases, traffic cases, non-traffic cases, civil cases, landlord cases, etc.

You may also obtain financial records by submitting the appropriate request form. Depending on the type of documentation you are requesting, there may be an attached fee. For more information, write to the address below:

Note: The Pennsylvania Judiciary Web Portal does not provide information about background checks. If you wish to get a criminal history report, you will need to get in touch with the Pennsylvania State Police.

Search for Demographic Records

The Pennsylvania State Data Center is the official source for demographic information and population statistics in the state. You can obtain data information ranging from census profiles to projections to estimates and much more. Search Closed Private School Records

If a school you previously attended has closed, you can request to get a copy of your academic records through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. For your request to be processed without delay, you may need to submit a small processing fee. If you do not see your school listed on the website, you can call the Division of Higher and Career Education at 717-783-783-8228, or send a letter to:
